Microbiology Culture Collection

The UNSW Microbiology Culture Collection was established in 1969, and provides cultures for education and industry. It is registered with the World Directory of Collections of Cultures of Microorganisms (WDCM248) in the World Federation of Culture Collections.

A catalogue of algae, bacteria, fungi and yeast is available for your perusal.

Unfortunately due to increasing costs, the charges for cultures (which have not increased since 2000) are now $75 for educational institutes and $95 for others. Delivery charges are now $25 for Risk Group One organisms.

Strict new international and federal regulations now require ALL Risk Group Two and above organisms to be shipped as Dangerous Goods in certified packaging. Costs for this start at $95 and depend on the delivery address within Australia. International shipments are possible, costs upon request.

Dr Jani O'Rourke is the curator of the collection and she is assisted by Mrs Kim Nguyen.

Further enquiries may be directed to Dr O'Rourke and if you send items by mail to the culture collection, please address them as follows
