Undergraduate and postgraduate options in BABS
The School BABS offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the modern life sciences to cater for the variety of career paths that students may wish to pursue. The exceptional standard of education within our degree programs is provided by dedicated and experienced staff, with access to the latest scientific equipment and technologies.
UNSW focuses on the interdisciplinary approach to research and training. BABS staff have an international reputation for research in biotechnology, genomics, proteomics, cell biology, genetics, bioinformatics, medical bacteriology, virology and bioprocess engineering, and have established collaborative links with industry in Australia and overseas.
BABS academics have been recognised for their teaching expertise at university and state level, and their research output ranks very strongly among the G08 universities. In the first Excellence for Research in Australia (ERA) process conducted in 2010, Biological Science at UNSW scored the top level of 5 the two-digit code level.
Undergraduate degrees

Bachelor Degrees
Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree programs are available to qualified students and cater for a wide array of interests and career paths.

Honours Degree
Applications for the 4th Year Honours program may be made by students who have completed a 3 year degree with a credit or better average. This includes students from universities other than UNSW.
Postgraduate degrees
The School of BABS offers qualified students combined research and coursework programs: Graduate Diploma and Master of Philosophy; and research-only programs: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Science (MSc) by research.
