What did you want to be when you grew up?
A genetic engineer.

Title of your PhD thesis?
The role of lipoamide dehydrogenase as a subunit of yeast multienzyme complexes.

Best memory of time at UNSW?
Listening to rock bands at lunch on the library lawn.

Current job description?
Head of a research group at Harvard Medical School. The main thrust of our research concerns increasing cell longevity. We have identified genetic factors within yeast cells that greatly increase their lifespan and are hoping to someday apply our findings to increasing the lifespan of humans.

Your strengths?
Managing and motivating a research team. This is crucial as I currently have 15 people in my research group (7 students, 6 postdoctoral fellows, 1 lab manager and 1 secretary).

Your weaknesses?
I can't keep my mouth shut about exciting discoveries.

Worst part of the job?
The paperwork.

Best part of the job?
Changing the world and helping the sick.
