SurgiLux® Biomaterial for Minimally Invasive Surgery

SurgiLux® is a patented invention of the Bio/Polymer Research Group that supports enhanced wound repair and healing. This unique biomaterial is intended as a thin film surgical adhesive that is placed over a wound and activated with a medical infra-red laser. The film then binds to the flesh, ensuring tissue approximation with minimal damage and sealing the wound.

The project will focus on processing modifications to SurgiLux® and their influence on wound repair strength and biocompatibility as tested through adult stem cell proliferation and cell cycle. Biomaterial processing and characterisation, and stem cell cultivation and analysis including proteomic profiling will be used in this project.
