Research in BABS

UNSW has an international reputation for excellence in research, and is ranked #1 in the G08 universities, for research in biotechnology and applied microbiology (2001 to 2005).

Research in the school spans fundamental to applied sciences and ranges from human bacterial pathogens, hepatitis viruses, tissue engineering, cancer, bioinformatics, functional genomics, stem cells, astrobiology, extremophiles and more.


Biotechnology & Bioprocess Development (BBD)

Aimed at developing new biotechnological products and manufacturing processes.
 

Quantitative and Computational Biology (QCB)
Uses mathematical approaches to study biological problems.
 

Molecular Cell Biology(MCB)
Focusses on understanding biological and cellular processes in molecular terms.
 

Environmental & Health Microbiology(EHM)
Investigates microbial life in various ecosystems ranging from distant planets to the lower bowel.
Common Interest Groups:  Fostering research activity in new areas that cross the traditional sectional/school/faculty boundaries.
