Research Description:

Research has focussed on the use of recombinant DNA technology to develop new therapeutic agents, in particular the development of specialised mammalian cell lines for the expression of complex glycoproteins such as humainised antibodies. The development of CHO cell lines capable of autocrine growth, CHO cellexpression systems, and the development of rapid techniques for the isolation of highly expressing clones using Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS). Research utilising proteomics to understand recombinnat protein expression in mammalian cells, and for the evaluation of human feeder cell layers in the support of embryonic stem cell cultures. Novel separation devices for the fractionation of glycoproteins, and the optimisation of recombinant protein expression in bioreactor systems.
