Animals That Eat Less Live Longer – Up to a Point
This is a view that has become a central theme in gerontology. However, recent studies have suggested that specific nutrients (proteins and certain amino acids) are responsible for increasing longevity. This project will investigate the role of different diets in the ageing of Drosophila females.
The project will expose flies to diets with a range of Protein: Carbohydrate ratio’s and then examine mitochondrial functioning, using state-of-the-art equipment, in flies known to harbour different mutations.
