Examination of the Impact of IBD Treatment Drugs, Dietary Factors, Antibiotics, Probiotics on C. concisus and other Bacterial Species in the Human Oral Cavity and Intestinal Tract

We previously found that drugs used to treat patients with IBD and some food additives affect the growth of C. concisus and other enteric microbes in laboratory conditions. This project will examine the effects of various agents on the growth of C. concisus and their release of toxins in patients with IBD and using animal models. Techniques used in this project include bacterial cultivation, cell culture, histological examination, Western-blot, proteomics and microbiota analysis.
