Increasing Energy Expenditure for the Treatment of Obesity

We have performed a chemical library screen and identified molecules that increase energy expenditure. Our lead molecule increases metabolic rate by 30% and promotes fat loss. In collaboration with chemists, we are developing and testing next-generation molecules with different potencies and pharmacokinetic properties.

We are seeking an Honours student to screen new molecules and test the best ones for beneficial effects in cultured cells and mice. Students will learn cellular bioenergetics, mitochondrial function and mouse physiology.
