The BABS Graduate Diploma is aimed at graduates from local or overseas universities who wish to obtain specialist training and experience in a particular area of science. If the applicant does not possess an Honours degree, this program is also recommended as a pathway to gain a qualification for entry into the Master of Science by Research or PhD programs.

Program objective

The Graduate Diploma comprises 48 Units of Credit, typically consisting of a research project (30 UOC) and three courses (six UOC each) completed over three terms. Mid-year entry is permitted for the BABS Graduate Diploma (term 1, term 2 and term 3 are the available intake/commencing terms).

Entrance requirements

Completion of a recognised three year Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) with a minimum average mark greater than 55, specialising in:

  • molecular cell biology
  • genetics
  • microbiology or
  • biotechnology.

Students without demonstrated research experience will be considered at the discretion of the Postgraduate Coordinator in the school.

Applicants must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum requirements for admission: English language requirements.

Applicants must seek and obtain agreement of a BABS academic to be their supervisor prior to applying; this is a key requirement to gain acceptance. View the BABS Honours Information Booklet and the BABS HDR Information Booklet for supervisors, projects and research areas. Identifying and negotiating with prospective supervisors is key to gaining admission, and you will need to align your topic of interest with the research area of one of our School’s academics.
